3 Ply Laminates & Pouches (PET/ALU.FOIL/PE)
PET / aluminium foil / PE laminates for sachets, ORS and pouches.

Laminates used as packaging material protect the product during transit, display and consumer storage from shelf loss linked to contamination risk and physical injury. A well-built flexible laminate keeps powders, granules and unit doses intact from the packing line through the pharmacy shelf and into the patient's hands.
In PET-FOIL-POLY constructions, the PET film provides an excellent printing surface and adds mechanical strength to the aluminium foil, which can otherwise be damaged in handling. Aluminium foil contributes the best practical barrier among common flexible layers and is non-toxic in nature for properly specified food and pharma contact builds.
The third substrate, PE, acts as the sealing medium and delivers the properties required for immediate contact with the packed material. Together the three plies support high-barrier sachets, ORS packs and pouches on form-fill-seal and pouching lines. Layer gauges, print and reel or pouch format are confirmed as per the agreed contract with the customer.
- PET outer face for strong print and foil protection in handling
- Aluminium foil core for high moisture, gas and light barrier
- PE sealant for heat sealing and product-contact performance
- Protects product through transit, display and consumer storage
- Available as laminate reels or converted pouches
DB Packaging parameters & tolerances.
General product specification. Final values are confirmed against the customer contract and batch documentation.
DB Packaging manufactures and supplies 3-ply laminates in the PET / ALU.FOIL / PE structure for sachets, ORS packs and pouches. Laminates protect the product during transit, display and consumer storage from shelf loss due to bacterial contamination risk and physical injury. Final product specifications are made as per the agreed contract with the customer.
Three-ply dry-bond or adhesive laminate: polyester (PET) / aluminium foil / polyethylene (PE). A widely used pharmaceutical sachet reference build is in the PET 12 碌m / foil about 7 to 12 碌m / PE about 35 to 65 碌m class, adjusted for fill weight, puncture risk and seal strength. Exact micron build is confirmed per order.
The PET film in PET-FOIL-POLY laminates provides a suitable surface for excellent printing and also strengthens the aluminium foil, which is otherwise prone to damage during handling. Print registration, scuff resistance and web stiffness on packing machines benefit from this outer ply.
Foil has the best barrier property among the three layers and is non-toxic in nature when specified for the intended contact packaging use. It sharply limits moisture, oxygen and light transmission that can shorten shelf life of powders, granules and sensitive oral preparations.
The third substrate of the laminate, PE, acts as a sealing medium and ensures the properties required for immediate contact with the packed material. Seal jaw settings on FFS and pouch lines are matched to the PE grade and thickness selected for the pack.
Layer Construction & Function
| Layer | Typical Thickness | Function |
|---|---|---|
| PET (outer) | Typically ~12 碌m class | Print surface, tensile strength and protection of the foil against handling damage. |
| Aluminium foil (middle) | Typically ~7 to 12 碌m class | Primary barrier to moisture, gases and light. Non-toxic barrier metal layer in properly specified packs. |
| PE (inner) | Typically ~35 to 65 碌m class | Heat-seal medium and product-contact layer for sachets and pouches. |
Heavier foil or thicker PE may be selected for abrasive fills, larger sachets or higher seal integrity. Lighter builds are used where pack cost and flexibility dominate and barrier need is already met.
Process Notes
- Supplied as printed or plain roll stock for form-fill-seal and pouch converting, or as finished pouches where agreed.
- PET face carries rotogravure or other approved print for brand and regulatory text.
- Seal on the PE face using temperature, pressure and dwell matched to the PE grade.
- Protect reels from moisture, crush and edge damage that can crease foil and create pinholes.
- Barrier and seal performance should be qualified against the filled product and packing line, not assumed from structure name alone.
Indicative Layer Options
| Layer | Typical Range | Function |
|---|---|---|
| PET | ~12 碌m class (as specified) | Print surface & foil reinforcement |
| Aluminium foil | ~7 to 12 碌m class (as specified) | High barrier 路 non-toxic metal layer |
| PE | ~35 to 65 碌m class (as specified) | Heat seal & product contact |
